Premier Training student Luke Carter has completed his AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting in eight weeks – and is targeting the ‘full set’ in less than a year.
Luke enrolled onto Premier’s AAT Complete Accounting Bundle (Levels 2, 3 and 4) in February, opting to study via distance learning around his full-time career.
He completed the fourth and final Level 2 assessment last month, and is already racing through the opening units of the AAT Level 3 course.
Explaining how he has progressed so rapidly through the Level 2 course, Luke explained: “Honestly, through having an amazing support network. Helena, my tutor, is really there for me.
“My assignments are back with me earlier than recommended and we have a check-in the Thursday before each exam. I take exams on Saturdays around work.
“Through all the material and practice assessments, we can work out what will trip me up the most and we work on that at the check-in.”
He continued: “I gave myself eight weeks (for Level 2). The first four weeks I studied all the material, working through the timetable set by Premier Training.
“Then four exams, so one exam a week for four weeks. Each exam week we focused on the material for that exam, it was more of a refresher week.”
Top tutor support
Unlimited support from his Premier Training tutor was key to Luke’s plan and his targets.
“I spoke with Helena right from the start and we discussed my ambitions and the future,” he added.
“I said I want distinction in every exam. Helena agreed to let me go for gold and would always be honest – if I’m not ready then I’m not ready. So far that’s not been the case as I’ve been given everything I need along the way.
Having completed his research, Luke saw that distance learning was the only way he could gain all three qualifications in such a short time while also working.
“College or classroom-based was a good three years minimum plus not practical for my full-time work,” he remarked.
“With distance learning, I set my own study time and realised I could get this done in 12 months if I really focus and not just pass but get a distinction in each level.
“So, I ended up with my target eight weeks for Level 2; 12 weeks for Level 3; and 32 weeks for Level 4. To do this I have to book my exams in advance, as they get booked up so far in advance, plus it doesn’t hurt as it gives you a little push as you have to be ready.
“Now I’m on Level 3 and I’ve given myself four weeks for my next exam. We have switched it up slightly and have a weekly check-in based on the assignments I’ve submitted so far.”
