We were joined by AAT Distance Learning Account Manager Jamie Hughes for our latest Premier Training Facebook Live Special.
Jamie is the ideal person to outline AAT qualifications, explain how to get started with your studies and describe how you can access the incredible support on offer.
So, if you’re aiming to forge a career in accountancy and finance – or progress in your existing finance role – then her introduction to AAT qualifications and courses should be ideal for you. Here are some of the highlights…
Why choose AAT?
Jamie: Firstly, AAT is open to all, so there are no formal entry requirements and there are no age restrictions. We do just advise that you start on a level that is relevant to your knowledge and your experience.
Also, AAT is internationally recognised and we have members in over 100 different countries, meaning it is highly sought-after by employers.
You will notice if you look on jobs websites, such as Reed, employers that are recruiting for accounting and finance positions are often asking for people to be either studying towards AAT or who are AAT qualified.
It’s also an opportunity to work in any industry – you don’t have to just work ‘in practice’. You could work in fashion, property, entertainment or sport for instance. Every business needs an accounting and finance function so it provides those practical real-world skills.
How to start
Jamie: We advise that you go straight to our AAT Skillcheck. This will test you on numerous areas in accounting and finance, and it will recommend a starting level.
Once you have done that, you can go on our ‘Find a Training Provider’ service and have a look at various training providers. We then advise you speak to those training providers directly to get a better idea of fees, advice and where to start.
You can then look on our ‘Find an Assessment Venue’ service if you’re studying through distance learning to find out where your local assessment centre is. You can then enrol with your training provider and register as an AAT student.
Access support
Jamie: Once you have registered as an AAT student you also have access to our lifelong learning portal, which has many different resources available. You will also receive a weekly newsletter from AAT with the latest updates.
We always advise using the support from both the AAT and your training provider, which gives you the best chance of success by utilising everything that you have available to you.
As a student you also have the dedicated AAT Customer Support Team. So, for any kind of technical or day-to-day queries you can contact our team.
If you’re a prospective student looking at studying and want to speak to the AAT then our Student Recruitment Team can be contacted for more information or, alternatively, speak to training providers like Premier Training directly for more details.
