Being named Distance Learning Student of the Year at the PQ Magazine Awards was a ‘wonderful surprise’ for Demel Johnson.
The Premier Training student was recognised at the PQ ceremony – this year held online – after overcoming a range of challenges during his AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting studies.
And Demel is understandably delighted to have been selected for such a prestigious award.
He said: “It’s unbelievable! I never expected to win, but it was a wonderful surprise and I am very grateful.
“I work full-time in retail and see my son on weekends, so didn’t have the time to travel to a classroom. Distance learning gave me the flexibility to study whenever and wherever I wanted. The very definition of ‘convenient’.
Demel is planning to build on his first accountancy qualification by making a career change and continuing his studies.
“My most immediate goal is to secure my first job in accounting and finance,” he confirmed. “I have been in retail for almost 15 years now and a change would be most welcome. After that, I intend to keep studying and potentially move onto the ACCA qualification.”
He continued: “None of this would have been possible without the excellent service provided by Premier Training.
“The fact that you can always and easily contact a tutor is a huge benefit. Work is always marked and returned with valuable feedback within a suitable timeframe. The mobile app, MyPTA, was beyond helpful.
“Lastly, I’d like to give a shout out to my tutor Richard Sharp. Thank you to Richard and thanks to everyone at Premier Training.”
