It’s a great time to be studying accountancy, and accountants have never been so important.
That’s the message from Mike Day of accounting software provider Xero.
Speaking to AAT students during Premier Training’s Facebook Live session with Xero, Mike explained that accountants and bookkeepers are becoming increasingly important – despite the rise in automation across the industry.
He said: “This is such a good time to be studying accountancy – the industry is jam-packed full of technology. I’ve been in this game for 40 years and I have never seen this pace of change in accounting.
“Also, accountants have never been so important, obviously in these Covid-19 times, but over the last five years in general.
“If businesses are attached to an accountant they have a 85% chance of surviving over their first five years. If they are not it’s only 50%.
“In addition, over recent years, we are finding that employment is increasing in accounting even though this is an area that is going through major transition and automation.”
Offering additional training to enhance CVs, the Xero Advisor Certification Equivalency Course is available free of charge to all Premier Training students.

These additional options further extend students’ knowledge and are an excellent way for budding accountants and bookkeepers to increase their employability.
